Director of Corrections

Jon Slebos

Is a 28 year veteran of the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office. The Director is also a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

The Director began his law enforcement career in 1994 as a Detention Deputy before transferring to Patrol where he advanced through the ranks as a member of the Felony Apprehension Unit, K9 Deputy, SWAT Deputy / Team Leader, Detective, Narcotics Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Training Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Captain and has now returned to his roots as the Director of Jails/Detention & Court Services. The Director is also an Instructor for the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission and has trained both law enforcement and corrections recruits as an Adjunct Instructor at the Northeast Florida Regional Police Academy in general and high liability topics. He is also an Instructor in Active Shooter response and has provided instruction to numerous churches, businesses and schools on how to respond to such an incident. He is also a graduate of the Florida Sheriff’s Association’s Commander’s Academy.

Director Slebos has worked in the County’s Emergency Operations Center where he served as Operations Section Chief during several Hurricanes, Wild Fires and a Tornado that touched down in Yulee. He was also a member of the Northeast Florida Regional Incident Management Team where as a member he deployed to several disaster locations to assist with recovery efforts.

Director Slebos received a commendation from Governor Jeb Bush for his actions during the 2004 Hurricane season.

As the Jail Director he oversees all operations for the jail/detention Center, transport operations, labor & vocational programs, medical services, food services, the K9/Bloodhound Unit, and security at both courthouses and the government complex.
